FORCE FED I saw a programme on the BBC called "This World" which featured a practice in the desert region of Mauritania where women are force fed to be fat. In a place where poverty is rampant, fat women are viewed as beautiful and being fat is a badge of affluence. It's a place where mothers beat their daughters and use finger clamps so that the girls would consume more than their body could handle. It's the western view of beauty in reverse. In Mauritania women buy steroids so they could gain weight quicker. The fat girls are the ones favoured by men for marriage. I always thought that the west's obsession with being thin to the point of being unhealthy was perverse but the other end of the spectrum is just as cruel. ♀
